We have officially started the next star on the MAP! After some resurfacing of the building and painting the base coat we are ready to get this mural on the wall!
The "canvas" in question should be very familiar to those who have worked on and supported our first endeavor. The building, next to MAP 1, is the back of Studio 24 @ 2220 K St. The two story wall is very smooth. The theme for this mural is "IThe Entertainment Industry/ Hollywood / Famous Faces". For those of you who are not aware, Studio 24 is an acting/photography studio.
The dimensions of the wall are 40' wide by 25' high. There are also several architectural elements that would need to be incorporated into the design--backstairs, all doors and utility service points. This is a very large area and we are suggesting this could be a group effort among several artists. We as the board may select a group of you based upon the concepts submitted and come together to create a cohesive piece of artwork. However, if one artist comes up with the best concept and is able to complete it in it's entirety, we will consider that as well.
Here is the breakdown of expenses:
Artist/s $3,000.00
Wall Resurfacing $3,000.00 Complete*
Paint Doors & Pipes $200.00 Complete*
Scaffolding $1,400.00 ($600 for one month 400 each additional month)
Miscellaneous $400.00__
Total Budget $8,000.00
Sponsors will need to be acknowledged in the final design by clearly stating "Mural Sponsors include...." so please account for this in your proposal.
To submit your idea for consideration, please snail mail a 8.5 x 11 color rendering of your concept as well as a simple cover letter that includes the title of your mural, a brief description and the name of artist/s participating. Be sure to include how the stairs and doors will be included in your overall design.
